There are many crafters in the floral genre who feel they are being weeded out of the game by sellers who just throw together picks and glue and call it art. Well, I'm here to tell you that it's not their fault. It's all in the marketing of corporations like Michael's and JoAnn. These companies have made the artform more accessible to the common "crafter". They make you feel like you've done something special after spending all your money on flowers, ribbon, picks, wreaths, etc and taking it home to actually create something you never thought you could. Crafters have found out how wonderful floral artistry can be, and they like it. Don't be angry with them, they are doing something new and special. And the big corporations have taken all their money, with a smile.
So why not profit from it? Instead of crying over lost customers at craft shows and other venues, why not get more creative? Use this knowledge to your advantage. I have heard so many complain about this "problem". There is never a problem, only new solutions. Try creating your own line of floral picks. Or how about floral-decorated bows? The trick is to get creative and NEW. One reason floral arts are being pushed out is because there are few or no new ideas. Use the ideas listed here and you might just turn your crafting "enemies" into customers.
