Buyers beware of new looking Airstreams with salvage titles. The first clue is if the trailer came from Hurricane Katrina ravaged areas. Secondly the seller claims that there is only very lite damage. Certainly not worthy of a salvage title. If you inspect one of these vehicles, look for rest leaking out of the belly pans or suspicious thick rust where painted has chipped away from the hitch. Check the inside of the cabinets and look for stains on the back wall. The frames of the trailers that were exposed to salt water will rust away in very little time. I just saw one of these trailers that sold for $22,000.00. It was a nice looking 2005 Bambi, but the new owner is going to get a shock when the frame rust starts bleeding through the belly pan. I just checked out a 2005 Bambi right here in Nebraska. It was a 2005 with a salvage title from Carthage MO. This trailer had all of the classic signs of flood damage if you knew where to look. The owner said that he had purchased it a couple of weeks ago and found that his truck was too small to pull it. What a story! This should be your first clue. Next, he was only asking $17,000.00. What a deal! Wrong! This trailer will probably show up on ebay in the near future.
Nothing wrong with a salvage title, providing you know what the damage is. If the seller is evasive, go somewhere else.
