How often have you wanted a wreath for your storm door, but a wreath will not fit between the door and the storm door?
So what can you do? How about making a totaly flat wreath? This would be a fun craft for your kids to do.
What you will need
- Scissors
- Large peice of cardboard, foam board or brown craft foam
- Craft glue (foam glue if using craft foam)
- Gold glitter glue
- Yellow, orange, red and green poster board, Bristol or craft foam
- Brown spray paint if using cardboard
- Pencil or marking pen
- Exacto knife
- Hanger
What to do
- Cut a circle out of the cardboard, foam board or craft foam the size you wish your wreath to be. You may want to use a large bowl to draw the circle.
- Draw a smaller circle in the middle of the wreath. Again you may want to use a slightly smaller bowl to draw the circle. The wreath sides should be 2 - 4 inches thick.
- With an exacto knife cut and X inside the circle.
- Cut out the smaller circle.
- Spray paint the cardboard or white foam board is used. Otherwise you are ready to go.
- Trace cookie cutters leaves in different shapes or freehand the leaves on the yellow, orange, red and green craft foam, posterboard or Bristol (cardstock/very stiff scrapbook paper). You may also buy fall leaves already pre-cut out of craft foam.
- Trace the outsides of the leaves and draw veins with gold glitter glue.
- Allow to dry.
- Glue leaves to wreath.
- Attach a coke tab or craft wire to the back as a hanger.
- Hang your wreath on the door and enjoy.
- You may make wreaths for other seasons (Christmas, Easter, etc.) by tracing shapes from a cookie cutter or pattern or freehanding. Use fabric paint to add details to your shapes.
- Christmas: reindeer, ornaments, gingerbread men.
- Easter: bunnies, eggs, chicks.
- Fourth of July: red, white and blue stars.
- Use your imagination on the shapes.
