Fitness and Video Games - The Smart Connection Vol.3

How to make your Fitness Gaming Experience more interactive!

Here are some ways to make your workout program interactive with the game you're playing. I'll split them up into cardio only and cardio/calisthenics.

Sports: I'll use football games as an example

Cardio Only

Sprint During Loading Screens

Sprint After Every Touchdown Scored

Sprint After every Quarterback Sack

Sprint After Every Interception

Cardio/Calisthenics

Label each significant play a different exercise and do 10 reps when that play happens

Home Touchdown - Pushups

Visitor Touchdown - Sit-ups

Quarterback Sack - Lunge

Interception - Squat

Just remember to sprint during load screens.

This set up works with all sports games (Hockey, Baseball, Basketball, Golf, Tennis, etc...)

Just use your imagination and make sure that your workout is hard enough to challenge you.

Racing Games:

Cardio Only

Sprint After Every Lap

Sprint After you Finish the Race

Sprint After every Crash

Sprint During Loading Screens

Cardio/Calisthenics

Label each action as a different exercise and do 10 reps when it happens

You crash - Pushup

You Take 1st place - Squat

You finish a Lap - Sit-up

You Lose First Place - Lunge

Keep in mind that these set ups are better for shorter races, if you're playing Daytona 500 and you're doing 100 laps you might want to change the format a little.

RPG:

Cardio Only

Sprint After Every Battle

Sprint for 15 seconds at the start of a Movie

Sprint After talking to 5 people

Sprint after collecting five coins, money, items etc...

Cardio/Calisthenics

Label each action a different exercise and do 10 reps when it happens

Won Battle - Pushup

Cutscene - Squat

Talk to 5 people - Lunge

Collect 5 items - Sit-up

You'll know better than I do what you should label the exercise or when you should sprint, and you'll know how to cater it to the game you're playing.

First Person Shooter/Third Person Shooters

Cardio Only

Sprint after 5 kills

Sprint after Melee Kill

Sprint After you find health

Sprint after shield upgrade

Cardio/Calisthenics

Label each action a different exercise and perform 10 reps when that action happens

5 Kills - Pushup

Melee Kill - Sit-up

Health - Lunge

Shield Upgrade - Squat

Another way to mix it up is to set a timer for 1 minute and see how many kills you can get in that time span. That is the number of *blank* you must do. This works best for games a like GTA.

I think you're getting the idea of how to make your Workout and Your game more interactive. Remember, the point of these workouts is to get your body moving, while keeping your mind off the fact that you're working out.

Keep in mind that all the exercise in the world won't change your body if you don't change your eating habits. Take a look at my guide "How to Change Your Diet Without Noticing" for more info.

And finally I must ask that you PLEASE VOTE IF YOU FIND THIS GUIDE HELPFUL. I'm just trying to help, please don't hesitate to contact me with your questions, comments, or success stories.

Thank you,
