The first thing to do is find a down tree or a point in a river.
now try your luck for pan fish. If the pan fish dont bite then you arent in a feeding ground.
most people think you find the deepest hole and thats were to go.
That is probley were the cats go to rest. The big cats like hiding spots so they can get in close to the small panfish without being seen. example base of a bridge behind the current, under a down tree, and drain pipes.
Most people think that worms are the best bate. That may be true for small cats 1-15lbs but I'm talking about 25-80lbs.
The best bate I found is cut mullet or extra large shiners live or dead.
so when you are done with your bass minnows save the dead ones for the bigger fish.
I use braided line 50lb test a 1oz egg sinker with a stop about 2 feet.
put it on the bottom around the base of whatever you found and wate.
now the big ones will bump the bate a few times, dont snatch up your pole let him run with it first .
Now the fun starts.
The reason i use braided line is this
when i got the line strength i needed the line diameter was to big.
the first time I used braided line I went to cut the excess off and i couldn t cut it.
I can remember one time a buddy of mine got his line hooked on a house boat and instead of breaking his braided line it took his pole off the dock and in the water.
He boarded the house boat and got the other end of his line an retrieved his pole.
now what line do you wont to use?
