For collectors or resellers, determining which ERB books are truly a first edition is a challenge for a couple reasons; almost all ERB first editions from 1914 until the 1930's lack any statement of "First Edition" as such, listing only the copyright date. Subsequent printings by A.L. Burt and Grosset & Dunlap and others also listed only the copyright date without any indication of the actual year published.  All ERB books published by A.L. BURT and Grosset & Dunlap are reprints, not first editions!  There are a few G&D books that have First Edition on the copyright page.  This is because G&D purchased unsold printings of the original text and bound it in their own covers; these books are called a "mixed edition".  One other thing to be aware of is that for many titles a number of states exists, for instance there are 3 states of "Tarzan of the Apes".  The 1st edition 1st state is the most desirable edition.  For more detailed information and photos see erbfirsts.com.

There are a few other First Edition ERB books not shown above due to the limit of 10 photo's.  They are as follows:  The Tarzan Twins, Tarzan and the Tarzan Twins with Jad-bal-ja The Golden Lion (both of these were written for young readers and are heavily illustrated), Tarzan - The Lost Adventure (written by Joe Lansdale using a rough draft by ERB), The Scientist's Revolt (magazine form only), Pirate Blood (this story is included with "The Wizard of Venus" paperback).  Note:  "The Girl from Farris's" and "The Efficiency Expert" were both first published in a 6 7/8" x 9 7/8" tall phamplet in 1965/1966 by "House of Greystoke", they did not have a spine.  The above photo's are of the first hard back printing.
