Sealing Your Dollhouse. 

The next step after completing the shell of the dollhouse is to seal it with a good wood sealant which can be found at any home improvement center or paint store.  The best thing to do is to seal both the interior and the exterior of the dollhouse.   It is not necessary to seal the roof of the dollhouse but I recommend it.  Sealing prevents adhesives, finishes and paint from being absorbed into the wood and can prevent plywood warpage later in time by protecting the wood.  It also saves time when you paint the dollhouse since you won't need to apply as many coats of paint. 

If your windows and doors are already installed onto the dollhouse and cannot be installed make sure that you cover them well before sealing being careful not to get any on the glass or acrylic panes.  Also be careful not to get too much in any decorative grooving and especially not in the window groves to prevent your windows and doors from functioning properly.

Use good brushes when sealing your dollhouse.  Some brushes leave fibers and bristles behind and since you don't want that spend the extra dollars for some nice artists or paint brushes.  After you are finished applying the sealant let it dry completely before going on to the next step.

What supplies will I need?

Wood Sealant:  Sealants can be found at most home improvement centers and paint stores. 

Good brushes:  You can use any size and type that you feel comfortable with but I recommend a good professional brush not more than 3".  You have better control of a smaller brush and less chances of applying too much sealant and getting runs.  I like the 3" Nylox Sprig Enamel Brush.  It is meant for latex paints but works well applying sealant as well and doesn't leave bristles.

Painting the Interior of your Dollhouse with White Flat Paint

Before you do anything else to the interior of your dollhouse you should paint it with white flat paint.  It gives you a preferable background color that can easily be covered with wallpaper, carpet or another color paint without distorting the colors.  Other colors can bleed through when you paint the walls or can show through some flooring and carpeting and white flat paint does not.  It helps to bring out the colors in the paint and carpeting rather than drowning them out.  Painting the interior white will also make it easier if you are planning to wire your dollhouse and will give you a better backdrop to work with.

What supplies will I need?

Flat White Paint:  Any type can be used but I recommend a good latex based white flat paint which can be purchased at any paint or home improvement center. 

Good Brushes:  Once again, use professional brushes not more than 3" or so for better coverage and be sure that the brush doesn't leave bristles.
