Final Fantasy 8 rarely has problems, the most common appearing when you have more than one CD/DVD drive/burner, since the game was from before people had multiple CD drives and the game doesn't account for the extra drive. You can either 'shut down' one drive in your BIOS, or edit the registry settings for FF8 to seek the other drive.

The second problem is a compatibility issue with newer graphics cards. As one of our buyers said -

Thank you for the fast, efficient shipping. The game I bought - Final Fantasy VIII - is compatible with newer XP computers, but has problems with
newer graphics cards. As far as I know, the Geforce 5600 series and up do not have '8-bit paletted texture support' due to the driver not including
the old technology (I initially had trouble with my Geforce 5600 GT). The game can still be run with a patch (downloadable from the Internet to remove some glitches) and by using 'Software Renderer' in the program config instead of 'Direct 3D Hardware Accelaration'. If the Direct 3D option is selected, the game incurs graphics problems that causes large blocky black pixels to appear around scenery (but the game still plays properly). Until drivers are released supporting 8-bit textures, the game must be run with 'Software Render' to avoid the bad graphics.

There are no other known problems with the game.
