This guide shows how to fill a 2P 2 Plug Epson Compatible Spongeless Refillable Cartridge with Auto Reset Chip (ARC).
This guide shows two variations of the initial fill process which is actually quite simple. It is a guide for 2 Plug cartridges where the plugs are on the opposite sides of the cartridges. There is a new cartridge version where the plugs are on the same side of the cartridge which is covered in another guide.
What is required to to fill the 2P design is a luer slip injector (can be 20cc, 30cc, 50cc).
For this example we'll use a T0604 Yellow for Epson C88. This fill though applies to ALL 2P (2 plug) cartridges.
1. Fill injector to 10cc with desired color ink.
2. Remove plug at the back of the cartridge (farthest from chip).
3. Insert Luer Slip injector tip into cartridge. Press firmly to create a seal with the fill hole.
4. Pull back on the plunger of the injector. Pill back 10cc if you can. Release injector and ink will flow into the cartridge
Pulling back on the plunger will remove air from the cartridge. When you relaese the plunger the cartridge will draw in ink because ink will be at the bottom of the injector.
Since the cartridges take 17cc of ink you will need to repeat this process with an additional 7 cc of ink.
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 using 7cc of ink.
6. Remove injector from cartridge.
Return back plug (farthest from chip) to cartridge.
Install cartridge into printer* and remove front plug ( plug closest to chip).
*IMPORTANT: Most cartridges that contain auto reset chips require all cartridges to be of the same type. If you receive an error message that cartridge is not recognized you do not have all refillable cartridges installed into the printer.
To reiterate: If you only install one or two cartridges your printer will not recognize the chips. Make sure you fill all cartridges first and then install at same time.
NOTE: This is not a steadfast rule of filling these cartridges. There are many slight variations such as using a 30cc or 50cc injector and filling the injectors to 17ml right from the start.
