While Lilac seems to be the most sought after comtempoary Fiesta color, the rarest is actually Sapphire. Sapphire is more more bright and brillant blue than Cobalt, but darker than Periwinkle by a good amount.
Several Fiesta colors have had limited runs. Chartreuse, Lilac and Juniper were all limited to a 2 year run, but Sapphire has the shortest run of only six months. It was an exclusive agreement between Homer Laughlin China Co. and Bloomingdale's Department Store.
So why does there seem to be alot of sapphire out there? Because it was only produced in a limited number of pieces. The only pieces produced in Sapphire were the five piece place setting, the large oval platter, 32 ounce serving bowl, tumbler, large disc pitcher, medium flower vase, handled serving tray, wall clock, and a carafe, as well as the 18 ounce jumbo cup and saucer from the Fiesta Mates line. So most of these items are available because only they were made.
So beware of anyone attempting to sell you a sapphire salt and pepper, sugar and creamer, or anything else not listed above for they were never produced.
