If you have been searching for FIESTA WARE on ebay, you may have seen some seemingly great prices for NEW Fiesta Ware. However, you may need to check the description carefully. Many ebay sellers are selling what are considered Factory Seconds. They are Fiesta Ware pieces that have been rejected by the Homer Laughlin Company as just not "up-to-snuff." Now because each Fiesta Ware piece is made individually, slight variances are considered First Quality. However, if a Fiesta Ware piece has a flaw not up to the Homer Laughlin Company's First Quality, it is sent to the Outlet center where it is sold as a "Second," or Second Quality.
Because a Fiesta Ware dish is a second, it is still considered new. It was never used. So just be careful when buying. If you don't mind second quality that is fine. But, if you do, be sure that the seller states that the item is First Quality Fiesta Ware. Also, some Fiesta Ware items come boxed individually (not all items). So if a Fiesta Ware First Quality piece comes individually boxed, you should receive it boxed. You will find many of my listings and auctions with the term NIB which means "New in Box."
Also, you may want to do a search that includes shipping costs. Some sellers "low-ball" their item's auction price, but the shipping cost is sometimes as much as or more than the cost of the dish(es). I don't inflate my shipping cost. It is the actual cost to ship plus 20 cents handling. NOTE: Ebay now provides that option to search for items with prices that include shipping costs in the total cost.
New Fiesta Ware is also referred to as Contemporary or "Post-86" Fiesta Ware because that is when The Homer Laughlin Company reintroduced the Fiesta Ware line after a time off. Fiesta Ware prior to 1986 is considered Vintage Fiesta Ware.
The New 2009 color is LEMONGRASS - A limited quantity of pieces were produced in the New Fiesta Color CHOCOLATE. Heather has been retired.
