Great news ladies - this season's fashions are (mostly) wearable, comfortable, and age-appropriate! Now more dressing like a tween or a guy...time to be YOU!
Like all Fall/Winter colors, the "in" hues are deeper and darker to match the lack of daylight...but still vibrant enough to catch the eye. Black and white are still in, especially when paired together. Grays can be worn throughout your wardrobe. Also popular: gold, purple, scarlet red, fuchsia, olive, royal blue, raspberry, orange, and rust. Staples in camel and 'cowboy' brown are a great choice too, and seasonless! See the color chart for examples.
Accessories really depend on the clothing. Keep it simple with patterns, of course. With solids and monochromatic looks, go for a statement necklace - something large and unique. Big, overloaded charm bracelets and necklaces are in, as are oversized (fake) gems and chunky jewelry in general.
Here are some of the key trends:
1. The waist is back. Belted coats, curvy dresses, pencil skirts, and fitted shifts...throughout, the emphasis is on the waist. Feel free to add a belt to a dress already in your wardrobe, but keep in mind - dresses this season should be sexy, maybe slightly edgy, but NOT skin tight or ultra girly.

2. Bold shoulders. Designers went back to the 80s, and returned with padded, peaked, and puffed sleeves. Tone it down to avoid looking like a fashion disaster! Light padding can be figure flattering, and some sleeve/shoulder embellishment can be fun too.
3. Recession time, so let's party like the 1920s. Personally, I find this morbidly funny. Flapper-style dresses are definitely back, fancied up with sparkle, feathers, and shorter hemlines. These relaxed shapes can be comfy, but don't flatter all bodies, so be ware. Stick to accessory items (long necklaces, headbands, fedoras, etc) for a more wearable version.
4. More 1950s style. This was in for spring as well; guess the designers are still in love with the look. It's an easy look to wear - knee-length belted dresses, kitten heels, long coats. Mix in pastel colors and bold patterns to be more modern, and keep hair and makeup subdued.
5. Medieval. Yeah, right. Embrace it with chainmaille jewelry and silver-stud accents if you dare. This is one trend that's just goofy.
6. Plaid. If you like hunting or grunge, rejoice. Otherwise, stick to a few small pieces (think Burberry) or avoid altogether.
7. Chunky knits. The sweater is back! Drag out your comfy cable-knits...loose shapes and rich colors look best. V-neck cardigans are particuarly in. Avoid too much trendiness (off the should shapes, pom-pom accents) if you want to get more use from these pieces.
8. Western wear. Find yourself some Pendleton's and quick! Patterned wools, Navajo prints, and fringed or beaded accents are all the rage. Stick with one main piece, and perhaps a bit of accessories.

9. A-line conservative dresses. This old-school Hollywood glamour, the kind that flatters most of us. Simple, fluid shapes that accent all your good qualities, and cover most of the skin. A great shape for cocktail dresses and formal evenings - stick to deep colors and rich fabrics.
10. Rust! A classic autumn hue comes out to play, in everything from sweaters to evening gowns. Wear this warm color in silk for the best look - the shine really enhances the hue. Accent with just about anything...silver, gold, even blue. Also great as copper jewelry!
