If your reading this, it's because you suspect a listing online. Are there fakes out there? Yes.
How will you know? Read the listing very carfully and look for word combinations like "I think this is a meteorite...", " It was found by my _____ and he was sure it was a meteorite", "It was reveled in a vision to be....".
This can also be true of Tektites. Since tektites are a mineral glass, it's not too hard to whip up a similar mixture and cast them, however they do this. And just like the fake fossils, we will see more of them. Here's an example of how fakes have invaded Ebay and how to recognize them:

Your best defense is to know whom your buying from. Look for IMCA numbers and logos ( International Meteorite Collector's Association). Just remember some of the top dealers are not members and you will have to learn who they are, for they are some great people.
