Hello Everyone
I have been seeing alot of forgeries of classic Tokai Guitars popping up on ebay and on the internet.
I do realize that there is Tokai guitars made in China and Korea, as well as Japan.
but there is a lot of fakes and forgeries popping out as well.
Lately a common one is replicas of Love Rock Les Pauls from the 80's.
most of them have a serial number that is one or two digits off.
and they look dead mint.
I know there is originals out there that are well taken care of, but there is a lot of fakes popping up lately, one place that was shut down in China was Musoland, they were selling fake tokai's as well as other famous name guitars.
one of the dead giveaways is the bridge, if it is supposed to be one from the 80's, it should have a bridge similar to a gibson with the small posts, if it has two huge flat head tops on it, it is either a reissue or a fake.
then the fake sg's that are popping up with the Tokai name on them.
there is a few dishonest dealers in Canada that were passing these off as the real deal.
the dead giveaway is the headstock shape, it is not identical to the open book headstock commonly used.
the headstock that is used looks like a cross between a dillion and a epiphone.
one of these stores in Canada was passing off fake Tokai Les Pauls.
one of the dead giveaways is on the back of the headstock
Manufactured for Tokai in Korea, Manufactured for Tokai in China,
Crafted for Tokai in Korea, Crafted for Tokai in China,
the main seller of these fakes was a guitar store that used the font on their lettering similar to AC/DC.
my suggestion is do your research on the Tokai you want to buy, and ask a lot of questions, there is a lot of websites on the internet that has information on these and other guitars.
take care and thank you for looking at my small guide
