Hello there!
Recently I had a bad experience with buying a Spyder jacket. I spent $180 dollars on a nice "Spyder" white/red jacket on eBay and for my surprise I received a knock-off. I was so angry that day. I decided to help other people not to make the same mistake. I emailed the Spyder's Sr. VP Jake Jacobs, and I had a long discussion with one of their dealers. Bellow is what I found out.
Why is a bad idea to buy a knock-off/fake Spyder clothing?
I am not going to talk about the obvious reasons (tax evasion, sponsoring the counterfeit criminal syndicates, etc.) I will talk about the personal reasons.
1. The jackets are cheap, because the materials used are cheap. If you buy a fake jacket - expect for one season to loose its coloring.
2. The materials used are not what is on the label - you see "DERMIZAX" on the label , but it is NOT! The fake jacket DO NOT keep the body heat and often they are not even waterproof. A fake jacket can get you sick after one day on the slopes. Printing labels is much cheaper than the months spent in the research labs by the Spyder scientists. So labeling things with the Spyder patented technology - can only bring you health troubles later.
3. You will look like a fool among your friends and in the eyes of people that know what real Spyder jackets look like! They will all laugh behind your back if you own a $15 Asian knock-off and you spend $150 on it.
How to tell a Spyder jacket is a fake?
1. Sellers of fake jackets take picture from distance - they know that a close picture will reveal the low quality of the item.
2. Ask your seller what is the model of the jacket. The fake jackets have no model!!! Ask for a picture of the label. The model and the Spyder Model number are always printed on the inside of the label !!!

The model number is there on every single Spyder product from the last 10 years!!! If a product has no model number - it is a fake. You can always verify the model numbers visiting Spyder.com
3. Look for the label on the pictures. The original Spyder labels are, black (with white or green spiders), although there are some very good imitations out there.
4. Each year Spyder comes with different labels (kept in secret to the last moment). For example last season (winter 2005/2006) the labels were black with a Green or Red or Yellow (for the Kyd's) Spyder on them. This winter (2006/2007) season - they are like a black booklet with a big red spyder on it. black with a big red spyderAfter looking at eBay auctions for a while - you will be able to tell the difference. Here are a few examples:
FAKE SPYDER JACKETS - AVOID!!!

For 2006/2007 Spyder's products have black booklet label with a red spider on it.

Unfortunately eBay does not allow me to constantly update this guide - so I have put a picture web site together. I will update the pictures in it all the time to help you distinguish between fake and original products.Feel free to email me your contributions - I will upload them in a timely manner. Here is the site (you may have to Copy and Paste the link in your browser):

Identify your sellers!
1. Sellers that hide or have their feedbacks as private have something to hide - usually they hide a feedback that says " He sells fakes!"....so avoid them!!!
2. Check your sellers' feedback and take the time to look at a few items the seller has sold in the past. Make sure they are original!
If you are not convinced...
