This article is for the new collector. I hope it will be helpful to you. Also so you don't get ripped off!
I'm sick of all the fake, junk reproductions of cookie jars on Ebay! Come on we seasoned cookie jar collectors and dealers know...............MCcoy DID NOT make a Little Red Riding Hood cookie jar. Regal China/Hull did. We also know Shawnee DID NOT paint stripes on Jo Jo the clown's ball final. It is brownish in color. Pearl China did the gold trim Mammy and Cooky. NOT MCCOY! Nor did MCoy do Goldilocks, Regal China did. Or Smiley and Winnie pigs, Shawnee did them many moons ago. MCoy did not do The Cow jumping over the moon, RRP did. (Robinson Ransbottom) If a cookie jar was produced in the 1950's........... It WILL NOT look like it was made last week. The colors of a vintage jar will be somewhat faded. Repros are being made daily right now!
Don't buy these "JUNK" cookie jars! Unless you want the low class piece in your collection. Older cookie jars and originals keep their value. These cheap repros aren't really worth anything to a true collector.
Repros are marked sometimes as originals. Some of the same markings are on the repro fakes. That's to fool you. This doesn't make it old or real. People out there think it's the real deal because the bottom is marked as such. BUYER BEWARE!
Please go out and research what you plan to collect.Get every collectors book you can on cookie jars. Mike Schneider measured the sizes of the cookie jars of way back when in his book. "The Complete Cookie Jar Book". This is a big help for the novice collector. Most of the repro fakes are a tad bit smaller.
The picture above is a repro made by JD years ago. It looks like the RARE MCoy Gleep. It is not old, nor is it the real MCoy!
