Authentic Kalk porcelain from Germany is seldom found on ebay. The majority of the listings, stating that the items are Kalk, are incorrect. These items are mass produced Japanese imports made for Arnart Importing Inc. and Homco. Unfortunately, there are at least two books that misattribute and identify the fake mark as one of the authentic Kalk marks. Hopefully this guide will serve to educate buyers and sellers about the fake marks and prevents folks from being misled.
A little info about Authentic Kalk marks: There are several authentic Kalk marks but the ones copied onto the Japanese imports are the plain crossed arrows or the crossed arrows with numbers beneath. The authentic Kalk plain crossed arrows mark was impressed. The authentic Kalk crossed arrows with numbers beneath has only one or two numbers, no more.
The many fake marks also include those that have the words Blue Onion or Brown Onion scripted below the arrows. There are also those marked Eric Stouffer and more with the word Porcelaine above. Of course, when these arrived in the US, they had the Arnart or Homco sticker, which is easily removed. The many items these fake marks are found on include figurines, cannister sets, dinnerware and decorative porcelain items.
