Yes you heard it before. These are originals! These are fakes! Bla Blah Bla.
Guess what. They are fakes. They are reprints. I've seen them, I've held them, I've compared them, and when you take a 1981 insert, and put it next to a 2003 lobby card set, turn them over and can't tell the difference in the paper, in fact, it is the same, 2000 era paper, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. Don't take my word for it, try it yourself. But dont take tulio's word for it either. (A belgian reprint of tokeyo joe, remember?) I even talked to the guys who had them printed up in canada. By the hundreds! AND yes, the Brad guy does sell reprints. But he is honest about it.. And so do the guys from Rochester NY. (no coment here) And yes, if you were wondering professor powers is a put on too.
I could name names, and places but I am not writing this to expose people. This is just to let people know to be careful. The reprint industry exists. It's a legitimate part of the business. Passing reprints off a originals is where the problem begins. There are reprints of double sided new releases too. Some sellers are up front about it, and sell both side by side and have it plain for all to see which is which.
Paper is a wonderful thing. BUT it ages. AND paper composition changes from year to year, and especially from 1980 to 2007. Can't stop technology.
I also own a theater, and receive original movie posters from the poster and advertising material outlets just like every theater in the USA, big or small.
I have been a contributor to a movie poster blog for about 20 years now. I am considered somewhat of an expert of sort in disney movie paper, and own just about every movie poster and re-release from that companyand their various sub companies. I also have 40 running feet or more of reference books on the company and their memorabila which is widely collected.
Use your own judgement on what you buy. Pin it up, tape it up, enjoy it. If your using white cotton gloves to handle your new posters, you need to find something to do with your time. (Come on, I said that just for you!)
Oh and my collection of good and bad, I have about 10,000 posters. (Likely more, but thats a nice round number) 9,500 of them are worth a dollar if that much. But I had to take the scruff with the good.
