Whenever celebrities are seen toting "it" bags, the counterfeiters are sure to follow. Goyard is sold exclusively at Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman in NYC and now I've seen FAKE Goyard totes being sold in Chinatown.
From a distance, it's difficult to tell the difference but here are some pointers that distinguish the fake from the authentic.
1. The "sheen" on the FAKE bags are extremely shiny.
2. The interior of the FAKE bags are either made of cheap yellow felt or white cotton that is supposed to look like the authentic combination of linen/cotton and hemp interior.
3. Stitching on FAKE Goyards match the color of the vinyl/pleather. Authentic Goyard totes have white stitching at the top of the bag and will have a white stitch in the middle at the end of the strap that is attached to the body of the bag.
Also, many of the FAKES have crooked straps.
4. Don't be fooled by the FAKE Goyard tags dangling off the bags and the fake dust covers.
5. Need to be convinced that FAKE Goyards are out there? Just go to ioffer.com - do a search for Goyard and your results will come up with Chinese imported bags ranging from $85 -$150. A huge reduction from the original 700 plus that the authentic bags sell for.
6. Before you buy on ebay, check out an AUTHENTIC Goyard, educate yourself before shelling out a couple of hundred bucks on a cheaply made $20 bag.
