Attention Buyers of Galle Gallé Galle-Signed Glass:
~ Don't Be Fooled by Dishonest Sellers of Fake Galle Glass ~
DON'T BE TRICKED BY SELLERS USING QUESTIONABLE SALES TACTICS -
BE CAREFUL!
* MOST so-called GALLE GLASS offered on eBay is NOT AUTHENTIC GALLE GLASS *
Most of these pieces are fake Galle glass made recently in China
HOW TO IDENTIFY FAKE Galle GLASS
An important warning to buyers:
Sadly, there are numerous sellers on eBay who claim their items are something they are not. If you want imitation MOLD created Galle glass (including vases, bowls, lamps, perfume bottles, and other items), you will find plenty of these new items on eBay.
TO HELP YOU IDENTIFY FAKE GALLE ITEMS ON EBAY, HERE ARE SOME IMPORTANT CLUES AND CHARACTERISTICS TO LOOK FOR:
===> Many of these sellers have starting prices far too low for real Galle glass, and use the exact same photo over and over in their multiple listings. Look at the seller's previous listings and you will see the exact same photos used over and over and over! Real FRENCH Galle glass costs thousands of dollars!
===> In Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf and near Union Square (in San Francisco) there are many shops offering these fake CHINESE Galle items. It is educational and interesting to examine and handle these items in person. If you have ever seen a real Galle piece in person - you will immediately be able to tell the difference between authentic and repro.
===> A ploy many sellers use to fool you is to include a section about the history of Emile Galle and Galle glass. Such blather is intended to make you think the item is old, real and from France when, in reality, it is not -- the item is usually made in China. Unfortunately, this practice shows that some sellers purposely choose to take advantage of buyers, by offering misrepresented items at prices that are, actually, too good to be true.
===> Most of these sellers list these fake items under the category "FRENCH GLASS," or "OTHER FRENCH MAKERS" and often include the word "GALLE" and/or "CAMEO" and/or "VINTAGE" and/or "FRANCE" and/or "ANTIQUE" in their Titles - trying to fool you. These tactics are against eBay rules!
IF AN ITEM IS MADE IN CHINA OR ANOTHER COUNTRY IT SHOULD NOT BE CATEGORIZED IN FRENCH GLASS. THIS IS A BLATANT VIOLATION OF EBAY RULES.
===> You will also see some of these sellers offering multiples of the item listed - within the same listing or listed at the same time. Please note that 5 of the same lamps and/or vases will almost certainly be those fake Galle Chinese vessels - not authentic French Galle glass! A real antique Galle art glass item is one of a kind - these were not mass produced in molds!
===> Did you ever notice that, and wonder why, so many of these questionable sellers are offering the exact same items - over and over? These vessels and lamps are not from France!
===> The Galle Signatures on these vases are fake. These markings were stolen from real Galle vessels and incorporated in the Chinese molds to fool buyers.
===> In Shops all over the United States, you can find many of these MADE in CHINA fake Galle items with MADE IN CHINA stickers/labels - See Below:
I recently purchased 3 Vases advertised as French Gallé - and all 3 have one of these stickers on the bottom:
Here are the 3 Vases from China:
These mass-made, molded items are NOT made in France. As you see - they are made in China.
Authentic Old Galle Art Glass is Worth Thousands of Dollars
===> Unfortunately --- You may even see fake Galle and fake Galle - signed glass advertised to the right of this warning. Be careful.
===
Everyone is looking for a bargain on eBay - but it is highly unlikely that you will be able to find an Authentic Galle piece starting at 99 cents or $9.99 or $65 or even $99!
Be Careful --- Don't be duped by sellers who use highly questionable business practices
IT TAKES EXPERIENCE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REAL GALLE ITEMS AND REPRODUCTIONS
Real Antique Galle Glass was Expertly Executed using Multiple Layers of Glass - with Fine Details, Superb Lines and Elegant Quality Glass. Pieces from China are crudely made in molds, lacking finesse, sometimes gaudy, and have numerous noticeable flaws and unusual characteristics.
CLOSELY EXAMINING AND HANDLING MANY PIECES WILL HELP YOU IDENTIFY REAL ITEMS FROM FAKE ITEMS. EVENTUALLY YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THE GREAT DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM - EVEN IN PHOTOS.
PLEASE KNOW THAT THERE ARE ALSO SOME AUTHENTIC GALLE ART GLASS ITEMS ON EBAY - AND HONEST SELLERS WHO OFFER REAL GALLE PIECES AT REALISTIC PRICES.
