Fake Anglo Saxon coins turn up regularly on Ebay, especially sceats.
Some people are selling Anglo Saxon sceats as genuine coins, which are modern copies - many produced by www.museumreproductions.co.uk and available from them at around 5 US dollars each - one of these sold on Ebay recently for over 300 dollars and the same seller has sold about 20 others in recent weeks to unsuspecting collectors for large amounts.
Many Ashmore copies are also sold as genuine.
If you are at all suspicious get an expert to check them out.
Also keep an eye on the discussions and announcements of Ebay groups on Early Hammered coins - very useful - they often name the fraudsters - 'Early Medieval Hammered Coinage' is a good one.
To join - click on 'Community' top right ---- then 'Groups' bottom left --- then 'Stamps and Coins' --- then select 'Early Medieval Hammered Coinage'
