I am writing this guide beacuse sellers jacking up the shipping costs on their listing are really starting to get out of hand.  Now I know we have all done this as some point or another to lower your cost to run items.  Fact: eBay charges sellers an insertion fee based on the starting price and extras. EBay also charges the seller a final value fee which is based on the winning bid.  We as sellers are selling our items on eBay's website and eBay has every right to charge us to do so, it is a business isn't it.  I do not and have not in the past worked for eBay and the reason I put this guide together is because the people that run, manage, and monitor the website and all the listings are not stupid and are well aware of this issue and ebay is not going to continue to lose money because some sellers don't want to pay a fair final value fee.  If this continues how long before eBay changes the structure on final value fees.  EBay is all about reputation based on your transactions and honesty.  Raising shipping costs is not honest, I mean think about it.  If a seller is going to use this loop hole to save a few bucks on eBay's policy, how much trust does this instill in potential buyers.

When you are listing items and trying to determine a shipping charge.  Look at a few factors.  First is how much is the actual postage going to be.  Second are the packaging materials.  Next is gas, which adds up running back and forth to ship out packages.  Ups is many areas is now adding fuel surchases.  Keep it honest, you will gain more customers that way.  Typically for most video games and DVDs the shipping charge should run between 2.99 and 5.99 depending on size and weight. but if your selling or bidding on games or DVDs that dont fall in this range you are paying too much or you are charging too much.  If you are ever in question about how much should something really cost to ship just goto ups or usps web sites and get a zip_code to Zip_code quote, this will at least give you an idea of a realistic shipping quote.

Keep eBay honest and to do this we have to not buy from sellers that do this to such an extreme degree, for example a seller selling a brand new GameBoy Advance game for 3.99 and the shipping charge is 26.99.  We all know it does not cost 26.99 to ship a 4oz game and a brand new game does not cost 3.99 unless it fell off the back of a truck.  Lets not encourage this, not only is it dishonest, but it also violates eBay's policies.  Thanks for reading my guide.  Happy safe bidding!
