This guide is to give Farie lovers who are new to the concept, an idea of articles and items that are essential, or just great to have.
I started by reading faerie books, then one day I walked into my favorite book store and saw this faerie book, so beatifully illustrated. The book was by a fantasy artist named Brian Froud. I found later that he has made alot of other books of this type, and has worked worked on films such as The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth (starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly) and currently: The Dark Crystal 2, working as the conceptual design artist. I find that this mans work is brilliant and one of a kind. I hope for those of you are interested in Faeries check out some of Brian Froud's book, I know once you read one, that won't be enough.
Other things that I collect personally as a Faerie lover, I have a modest collection of Tinkerbell statues and figurines. I know there has been an ongoing debate as to whether or not Tinkerbell is a pixie or a faerie, I think Tinkerbell is more of a faerie than a pixie, simply because pixies look more like a cross of a faerie and a goblin or troll, and they are more demonic and mischevious.
One of the more recent things I have been discovering are faerie doors, they can look like a normal door but are much, much, much smaller. People place them in their houses along base boards, at the foot of stairs etc. There are some websites that actually have pictures of these door placed in various places. I find this very interesting because, these people put them in place for an invite for the faeries. People even place gifts at the front of the door, such as coins, flowers, food, pieces of cloth and other miscellaneous items. Some people have gotten very elaborate and installed little windows, and have actually created living spaces for them and furnished the little homes.
This brings me to faeries houses. I have seen and have also been designing faerie houses. All made out of natural materials found outdoors such as twigs, leaves, bark, moss etc. Mostly all the materials used for the houses are from nature except for items like twine, string, maybe wire on occasion. These houses are made by people as an offering to faeries to welcome them and give them a place to rest or dwell.
That said, there is so much to the faerie realm, and not just faeries....goblins, trolls, pixies, sprites and more. If you really want to know more, pick up one of the books by Brian Froud or even check out his website worldoffroud.com, there will be a list of book there.
If you believe, or even if you don't, with how small the spark of love and compassion is in the world today, it's nice to touch the little bit of magic we have left inside of us. It's a great thing to disappear into this majestic realm and find ourselves. To reach into the depths of our imagination or enlightenment, and never let go of the piece of us that just wants to Believe.
