Myth: You should keep things very quiet when your baby is trying to sleep.
Myth: Sucking a pacifier is a bad habit that needs to be broken.
Fact: When your baby sucks on a pacifier he's developed important comfort skills. Not every infant needs one, but if he loves his pacifier then let him have it. You may have also heard that pacifiers cause crooked teeth, but according to pediatric dentistry pacifier use is unlikely to lead to dental problems.
Myth: All babies like to be swaddled and held tightly.
Fact: Research shows that babies need to be touched and cuddled in order to grow and develop properly. But babies respond to touch in different ways. Some babies respond to touch in different ways. Some like to be held, but not too close. Others like skin to skin contact. Read your baby's cues. You will know what they like.
Fact: Babies are very good at tuning out repetitive low frequency noises, so there is no need to stop talking, or turn off the t.v. Some babies actually prefer to have white noise in the background, like the quiet humm of an air conditioner or a radio turned to static.
