Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and thought, ” Man, I have a round face? Or a long face? or a rectangular face?” I know I have. But did you know that by simply wearing the right pieces of jewelry you can soften your look and maybe even out the intense shape of your face?!

This weekend I was just reading through articles and I came across a few that talked about wearing the right jewelry for your face shape. There was a really cool article, technically for brides, but I am going to share a few ideas of it with you. So sit back and learn from these tips that are made uniquely for you and your beautiful face.
First, there may be some of you who don’t actually know what your face shape is. So if that is the case, let me help you out.

TO DETERMINE YOUR FACIAL SHAPE:
1. Pull your hair back so that you can see your hairline.
2. Have someone take a picture of you revealing your hairline.
3. Outline your face with a marker on the photo.
4. Now look at your face shape on this photo. Choose the shape that most closeley resembles your own. If your face is a combination of shapes, choose styles based on the following criteria, which most flatter your particular shape.

Now there are a several different face shapes, but we are going to stick with the main four: oval, round, square/rectangular, and heart-shaped face. An oval face is longer than wide and has curved edges…no straight lines. A round face has equal distance all around with the nose as a center point. Square and rectangular faces are basically the same except a square’s distance from forehead to chin is the same as cheek to cheek. A rectangular face is longer than wide. Last, a heart-shaped face is wider at the top (the eyes, cheeks, and forehead) and then comes to a “point” at the chin. They normally have sharper features.
Now that you know your proper face shape, it is time to help you know what to look for that best compliments your face and cuts down on the extreme roundness or angles that can keep us from enjoying the way we were created.

–Oval:
Necklaces: You can wear anything. From a choker to a necklace that comes to a “v” to a long strand of beads, you can pull it off…
Earrings: Once again, you can pull any look off. So don’t be afraid to wear round, button, hoops, studs, dangles (although make sure they aren’t to long), but take a chance and wear triangular shapes–they are really flattering!

–Round:
Necklaces: Your goal and desire is to slim the face, so to give the look of dimension you want long necklaces. It is best to stay away from chokers and even big, thick beads near the neck that add a thickness to your throat. So a tip for those of us with round faces, look for anything that adds length!!
Earrings: Anything long that draws attention down instead of around is very flattering to a girl with a round face. A drop earring looks incredible, as do rectangles and squares!

–Square/Rectangle:
Necklaces: Opposite of the round face, a rectangle wants to add width to take away from her length, so she wants to stick with shorter and thicker necklaces…lots of chokers.
Earrings: A good drop earring compliments a square face, while a button style looks best on a rectangular face.

–Heart                                                                                                                                                             Necklaces: Well, many say chokers look best because it softens the sharp angle of the chin. Many times, if you add double or triple layers it adds width around your neck which balances the thinness and angles of the chin.
Earrings: The best look for a girl with a heart-shape face is something that is wider at the bottom because once again that will balance out that chin…something like a teardrop, upside down triangle, or even a button look perfect.

Now, remember, these are not rules to live by…just tips, especially for those times when you can’t seem to get rid of that one thing that bothers you about your gorgeous face.
