In February 2008, me and my military family moved to Spain for 3 years. To my dismay, there are tons of things items not readily available like in the states. I became an "Ebayer" in April and noticed a dishearten trend with in Ebay, seller's have a mis-conception of what a FPO/APO address is. FPO translates to, Fleet Post Office while APO means Army Post office. The beginning of my address overseas is FPO-AE, which means Fleet Post Office-Armed Forces Europe. ALL of my mail from the states gets on a military plane in New York, New York. The costs to ship items to military members serving overseas does not differ from sending a package to my home in Indiana. I understand that UPS does not deliver items to FPO/APO address's. But, FedEx and USPS do. I also fully understand the convenance of UPS picking up deliveries from the front door. My concern is when I ask a seller if they ship FPO/APO, the majority of responses is, "Sorry, I do not ship overseas," even though they use USPS (I am in the habit of asking before I bid on anything now).
Anyone can find out more about FPO/APO if you google FPO address, and click on the first link.
Military members like myself use Ebay, but do not enjoy paying 2 shipping fees (some sellers ask to ship to a family member in the states, and then they pay to ship it to us).
I can not stress this enough, shipping to a FPO/APO address is the SAME (including cost) as shipping to any address in the states. Please help those serving you half way around the world.
It may seem that I am just being negative about my experience on Ebay, but that could not be farther from the truth. I have had great experiences with seller's that understand my predicament and have worked with me so that I am receive items I have won.
