This is just another QUICK FYI GUIDE that we wanted to write in regards to the Motorola Q SmartPhone. Earlier today we wrote a Guide on the greatly shortened Battery Life Expectancy* when using the Q's Internal Modem, and this is the follow-up that we had mentioned.

There are MANY Sellers everywhere, especially on eBay, offering Q Replacement Batteries for a low as $10.00(includes shipping). "THATS CHEAP" you say! Even though the Sellers "claim" that the battery is Q compatible, make sure you know what you're buying before you do so. Yes, dimensionally... these batteries will fit all Q Phones, but..... will they work properly? MANY of the batteries being offered/sold are SMALLER than the batteries that came with most Q's. We would assume that you're interested in replacing your battery because the battery life is too short, or the battery is worn and will not hold a charge. Either way, you want a battery that is going to last, and is going to atleast allow you to do on your ohone what your last battery provided, right?

Heres the catch:

  • For example, if you look at the specs on our "factory" Q battery, it is rated at 1130mAh. So, we would want/need an 1130mAh or LARGER. Many of the Q "compatible" batteries being sold ARE MUCH SMALLER than 1130mAh. For example, one of the most common batteries being offered is the BT50, and it is only 850mAh. That would mean that its capacity is much smaller than what your used to (25% smaller), and it may not be enough to power your phone. Most of the Extended Life batteries are 2200mAh, which offer nearly twice the capacity than our factory battery. The BT50's are the same size as the factory original Q batteries when it comes to "appearance", as the 2200mAh batteries have the fat back as they are the extended life. Note that the Extended Life are larger is size/appearance, and most likely may not fit your accessories, such as hard cases, holsters, etc. Keep that in mind also when "upgrading".

So, just be careful when you search "Q BATTERY" on eBay, and click Buy-It-Now or start bidding. The battery you are buying or bidding on "may look the same" buy MAY NOT WORK PROPERLY and/or may not be what you need. Just look at the Motorola label on your Q's battery, and match the mAh capacity to the battery you're looking to purchase!!

It is April 2008 now, and we have had our Q for almost one year, and LOVE IT! Over tha past year, we have written many Guides on the Q such as: Buyers Guide & What to Look For, Make Your Q Run Smoother and Free Up Drive Space, Is Your Q Non-Responsive at Times?, The Q's Battery Life, Q Internal Modem/Link Use, and a How-To-Guide for Easily Creating Custom Personalized Wallpapers/Backgrounds for your SmartPhone. Currently, these are the Guide Topics we offer(as of April 08), and will probably continue to write more as we have more FUN with our Q!

*Manufacturers/Sellers claim that the various products offer an Integrated Microchip that prevents overcharging, and in turn lengthens battery life. From our many, many experiences with many different cell phones(even from back when they were first introduced), the battery does in fact still overcharge and its life expectancy is greatly shortened over time.

We hope that this Guide has been found helpful, and we THANK YOU for stopping by!!!
