- Daily balanced supplement is needed to fulfill your cats daily requirements for vitamins & trace minerals.
If you don't give these to your cat you ar inviting binge eating. They will eat nearly everything non stop. I have heard complaints of kittys eating rubber bands, shoe ties, wash rags and more stuff that should never ever be a part of Kittys diet. You are also inviting diseases to set in. When was the last time you read the cat food can or bag? What shouldn't be in your canned cat food is listed at the bottom of this page.
Vitamins and good food bring out the shine in a cats fur that no bottle of shampoo can ever do. Good quality food also brings out the brightness in their eyes and their mental attitute is like they were dining on rainbows. Such a vast improvment over the down in the basement look and attitute that some cats have.
If you really look at it right, a happier cat will make a happier you. A healthier cat will make your wallet just a bit fatter too. Remember fat in the wallet is better than fat on the cat. Your cat should be getting more meat protein in their diet than oats and grain can give them.
Cats need a little something called Taurine and without it your kitty can go blind and have heart problems. Taurine is a amino acid that is present in wet food but not in dry food.
HERE IS A GREAT KITTY RECIPE
- 1 pound ground beef - cooked
- 1/4 pound beef or pork liver, cooked and diced
- 1 cup cooked rice (without salt)
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon calcium carbonate (crushed antacid tablets).
Combine all ingredients in a medium sized bowl and mix throughly. Makes 1 3/4 pounds. Give to kitty or mix with their food 4 ozs daily and if no time at all you will see an improvment.
This recipe will keep up to 5 days in a tightly closed jar or 4 days in a zip lock. If not feeding right away you must place in the refrigerator. Will last in the freezer for up to 3 months at 0 degrees F.
FOR KITTY'S ON A DIET
- 2 1/2 pounds beef liver or chicken liver, cooked and ground
- 2 cups cooked rice
- 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons calcium carbonate (crushed antacid tablets).
Put all ingredients in a medium sized bowl and combine well. Feed a 5 pound cat 1/4 pound daily. Feed a 7 or 8 pound cat 1/3 pound daily. Feed a 10 pound or more cat 1/2 pound daily. This recipe will keep up to 5 days in a tightly closed jar or 4 days in a zip lock. Must be refrigerated immediately. Will last in the freezer for up to 3 months at 0 degrees F. Recipe makes 3 1/2 pounds.
KITTY Treats
- 1 3/4 cups of kitty food
- 1 cup of unprocessed bran
- 1 cup of quick oats oatmeal
- 1/2 cup + 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil.
Preheat oven to 250 degrees F. Mash the kitty food in a medium sized bowl, till mixture is smooth. Mix in bran and oatmeal. Add slowly the oil, where you can mold it into tiny triangles and circles. Bake for 3 1/2 hours. Cool. Store in a cookie jar or a covered can. Will keep 2 months refrigerated or 2 weeks if in the cookie jar. This makes bunches and my 6 cats can finish the can in 7 weeks.
- Place a kitchen drainer under their food to catch scraps. Dump scraps into the garbage later and clean and replace. Much easier to pick up the drainer than to sweep and scrub the floor.
- If you have a kitty that would rather chow down several times a day than it is prefectly okay to leave a bowl of dry food out for them, as long as it is not low enough for other animals - such as dogs - to get into. Cat food is not good for dogs and dog food is not good for cats.
Wet food can't be left out all day - because it will simply spoil - so you may have to remove it and place in the refrigerator and get it out later when they want a few more bites.
THE Green STUFF for KITTY
-
If your kitty is strickly inside you might want to supply her with own grass.
- You can do this by getting a small cat littler box, filling with dirt and planting your own grass & watering
- You can also go to the pet store and buy it in it's own container.
I don't recommend using a potted container as the kitty may get it mixed up it's regular diet container and try to eat. A lot of household plants are posion to kitty.
Many people feel that canned food is better for kitty than dry food, but I don't think a little of each hurts anything and may balance everything else out - if done correctly. READ your labels!.
Cats should never be fed a strickly dry cat food diet. Your cat will never look its best on a strick dry food diet. If Kitty has difficulty in eating the dry do the following receipe. The moisture will soften the dry and make it easier for kitty to eat.
- 1 small 5.5 oz wet can of cat food per cat
- Dump in bowl
- Add 1/4 cup of dry food per can
- Mix together and give to kitty
Dry cat food will say high in protein on the label, but if wet food were to be compared with dry on the same merits than wet food would be the true leader in all areas. Cats need high protein from a meat diet not from a plant diet.
They do not need however, high carbohydrates, which is what you find in dry cat food. The average dry cat food contains between 30 to 60% in carbohydrates. The cheaper the dry cat food the higher the carbohydrates. Canned food contains only 3 - 5% carbohydrates.
DO NOT FEED YOUR CAT ANY DIET that consists of more than 10% of its calories from carbohydrates.
Anothe thing - cat's need water. They may not care for the bathe, but they do enjoy drinking it. If you have a multiple cat household like mine, and get tired of always adding water - then go to the store and buy a container that you can fill with water, turn over and have it automatically give the right amount of water for kitty. However, these type of containers need to be changed every other day as water not only goes stale but kitty always leaves things in the water bowl when they are done.
Fish and beef have food allergens and can, but not always, cause inflammatory bowel disease and skin allergies. Food in those convientant pouches have a lot of water and little food for kitty. So it is kinda like puttting food in a bowl and then surrounding it with water. Cats do not need vegetables - except for grass - if you want to consider that a vegetable. Vegetables are only good for humans.
