We all want it and most of us deserve it, but it can be so hard to get. Feedback is important to both buyers and sellers. Until you receive 5 feedbacks you may be limited to buying from certain ones and even talking on the discussion boards. Sellers need 20 to open a store if you, don't want to pay the $5.00 to be verified. And for all, the more positive we receive, the more trustworthy we become in the ebay community.
Ebay has suggested that the way feedback is left goes like this: Item is won, instant payment(or not) is received. Seller packages up item(s) and sends them off. Buyer receives(ohhs and ahhs) and in a way to let seller know everything is okay, leaves feedback. Seller sees buyer is happy and leaves feedback.
Does everyone do it this way? No. Does everyone like it this way? No. But eBay does say that feedback isn't mandatory. This can be frustrating to all. We instantly paid, we left feedback but didn't receive in return, all good reasons to want and deserve feedback.
This is what I do as a seller and buyer. I want my 20 feedback so I work very hard to receive it. I communicate with buyer/seller, I follow eBay's suggestion, I've even asked for it specifically from buyer/seller. Once I've received my 20, I relax. In time, your feedback will be flying in so fast you won't beable to keep up. So relax, enjoy and welcome to eBay.
