Here I am in the office again...and I received some more feedback from another individual that just insisted on leaving negative feedback in the positive feedback area.
What is the harm you say...after all who really reads that stuff anyway? Well, I do - or I wouldn't be writing about it.
What is the purpose of feedback? It is a way of judging a seller or buyer without ever having met them face to face. An individual's feedback rating is their personal collection of "atta boys" and in some cases- dire warnings of "buyer or seller BEWARE!!" for the rest of us to see. I find it hard to understand why people don't comprehend the importance of receiving or leaving feedback...whether it be negative or positive. One stipulation - IT CANNOT BE BOTH. You either had a positive experience and you benefitted in a positive way OR your experience was at best uncomfortable - and at worst, the nightmare of all tranactions.
Unwarranted negative feedback from a SELLERS point of view can be harmful, malicious and tremendously hard to overcome if you are just starting out - or really made an honest mistake and there is no pleasing the individual who left the feedback. (Yes, there are people out there who will even write to you and threaten you with NEGATIVE FEEDBACK) I say bring it on, I get a few free rides a year and if there is no pleasing ya - then so be it. It is especially hard for a seller to make a correction when they are unaware that there is a problem (for whatever reason) and suddenly there is this ugly red mark next to their name. Sure, they fall off eventually...but in some cases did it have to be there in the first place? Doubtful.
For that unscrupulous seller, the more negative feedback the better! Let the rest of us know about your problems. Those individuals that have chronic difficulties with their business are deserving of the honest wrath of a ticked off consumer. In most cases I would bet that the buyer couldn't drive to the sellers store and demand to see the manager - and the seller knows it. Sure, you might get added to the seller's blocked list, but were you going to ever do business again with that individual in the future? Again, doubtful.
Which leads me to POSITIVE feedback. This is a place to leave a positive little ditty (canned or created...it's all good). This space shouldn't be filled with your personal advertising or negative crusade. This is where you communicate your appreciation for a job well done, an item arrived and you just love it or hey your shipping prices are just right, etc etc etc.
Here are some examples of NEGATIVE POSITIVE FEEDBACK:
- thnx. it arrived - box ripped during shipping. (this seller has no control over the post office)
- thanks for my stuff. visit here: mylittleebayemporium (hey, get off of my site with your stupid advertising, this is my dime you are talking on here)
- stuff arrived. took a long time to get product. bad communication. (hello - how is this in ANY way positive?)
In conclusion, feedback is a way for everyone to more honestly judge whether they want to do business with a particular seller or continue doing business with a particular buyer. However, that does not give the buyer a right to leave malicious statements or cheesy links to their selling site/listings in the positive zone. There are plenty of ways that Ebay has for you to market your product or site- without having to use up positive vibes. So the next time you receive your item and you have a spare moment....write about it - in the proper place.
