I feel that some people may have been misled, or maybe someone has a junk outdoor woodstove,
I personally own a classic central boiler and after much research.
The myth of wood burning for 92 hours, well- During the summer yes i can fill it once a week, but in the winter i do have to fill it twice a day, sometimes 3, depends on how cold it is, what i'm burning, etc...
When the furnace is sitting dormant, it smokes, but VERY minimal, it only smokes when the damper first opens and the fire is getting going, thereafter there is again minimal smoke.
Putting the furnace 500 ft. from your house, yes it may not be the most efficient way to go, but central's outdoor insulated pex loses about 1 degree per 100 ft, thats not much at all, to put it this way, i have about 20 ft of it ABOVE ground and there was snow on it and it stayed there for weeks before being melted by the sun!! the difference in temperature between inside and outside is not significant.
Check out central boilers www.centralboiler.com they are miles ahead of the competition, in my humble opinion!
