Just a year or so ago some replicas of the extremely rare German SG42 bayonet were sold here on ebay for about $250,I picked one up for $150 on a week when no one else bid.Actually not a terrible repro as it is fairly close to the original without the $4-5K pricetag.Now I see it's gone full circle and these are starting to come back where unscrupulous sellers in Europe are letting them rust up and selling them as original items.Even though this breaks ebay's rules on forgeries they don't appear to be taking any action so I've included a few photos of my original and repro SG's so you can protect yourself against this fraud.Original on top,fake below,or original on left,fake on right.First and foremost the Germans NEVER used machine screws to attach the grip panels,always riveted.Also the blade profile is different as shown.This info is for the recent fakes,there also exist earlier(1970's)that are very close to the originals with subtle differences.These are the late versions that weren't really made to deceive because it does show the obvious differences,but if you don't know what you're looking at these crooks might just snag you,the last one I saw went for $600.BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!
