This as some of the other silver judaica are fake based upon the reasons I have already mentioned in my other guides on Fake Judaica.
First, what is a circumcision guard? Without getting into graphic details, these guards are used by the Mohel (one who does the circumcision on the baby) or Doctor to "capture" the skin so it makes a cleaner and easier "cut". These guards have been around for thousands of years I'd guess, ever since the Bible mandates this commandment for the Jewish people (and them alone).
Recently, a factory somewhere in Vienna has employed dozens of silversmiths creating silver Judaica pieces of Besomim boxes , Torah Yads , Etrog boxes, chess pieces and even crucifixes for the growing antique silver Judaica and Christian market. Their merchandise is sold all over the world, especially here on Ebay and even in tourist shops from Casablanca to Eastern and Western Europe. I've seen some of their works even end up in Judaica catalogs.
Circumcision guards which are currently selling here on Ebay for anywhere between $100 to $500 are certainly a goldmine for the con artists who sell it. Notice that the hallmarks are very similar? Notice how the pieces look NEW? Notice how the themes are all similar (and usually have nothing to do with circumcision!)?Notice the Hebrew lettering to be the same and quite new? Well, guess what ? They ARE NEW!!! These are outright fakes, made to order for unsuspecting tourists and EBay buyer.
I have put some examples below, but the styles are constantly being variated with little imagination. Beware of these fakes and don't buy them more for what they are worth (content of silver and work) which I'd estimate at about $25!
See my other guides on fake silver and please vote on ALL OF MY GUIDES! It's the only way to make people realize the fakes that are out there! Report the sellers, demand your money back! If you want to get your money back and report these con artists to the FBI and internet police, please see my guide on FRAUD ON THE INTERNET
Thanks for reading this guide. Hope it has helped you and please vote, it sure is appreciated!
