FAKE FOSTORIA EGG PLATE
THIS EGG PLATE IS ONCE AGAIN BEING FRAUDULENTLY SOLD AS FOSTORIA AMERICAN ON EBAY.
This egg plate was actually made by Anchor Hocking - a pattern called Fairfield. Fairfield was made from 1975 until the early 2000's. We have the Anchor Hocking catalog from 1975, which introduced the Fairfield line (see picture below).
One trusting individual paid over $100.00 for this egg plate which was fraudulently advertised as Fostoria American. When we tried to let the bidder know about the scam, we got warned by eBay. I guess it's OK to defraud buyers, just not to try and educate or warn them!!!
FOSTORIA ONLY MADE ONE EGGPLATE. IT WAS CALLED "RANDOLPH" (#2375). IT WAS MADE IN MILK GLASS AND CRYSTAL. IF SOMEONE IS ADVERTISING A CRYSTAL EGG PLATE AS FOSTORIA AMERICAN - IT CAN NOT BE! FOSTORIA NEVER MADE AN EGG PLATE IN THE AMERICAN LINE PERIOD.
I RECENTLY RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM EMILY SEATE, CO-AUTHOR OF MANY BOOKS ON FOSTORIA GLASS. SHE STATES:
"As far as I could tell, the 2375 Egg Plate in crystal and milkglass is the only one they [Fostoria] made."
Below is a picture of the Randolph egg plate #2375 in milkglass. We would like to thank Paul at RedDogAntiques for allowing me to use his picture. His egg plate is currently being auctioned on eBay (Randolph eggplate).
You can also see a picture of the Fostoria "Randolph" eggplate on Lianne McNeil's great website - "Myeggplates dot com."
THE PICTURE BELOW OF THE FAIRFIELD EGGPLATE WAS TAKEN FROM AN ANCHOR HOCKING CATALOG THAT WE HAVE IN THE MUSEUM.
THE PICTURE BELOW IS THE FRONT COVER OF THE 1975 ANCHOR HOCKING CATALOG INTRODUCING THE FAIRFIELD LINE.

IF YOU ASK THE DEALERS WHO FRAUDULENTLY SELL THIS ITEM AS FOSTORIA AMERICAN TO CITE AN AUTHOR OF ONE OF THE MANY GREAT FOSTORIA IDENTIFICATION BOOKS, THEY CANNOT GIVE YOU A REFERENCE FOR THIS EGG PLATE.
One dealer gives a false Fostoria pattern number and years of production. It looks very convincing and authentic. Ask the dealer where the information came from and usually they will not even answer your question.
The Fairfield pattern is made by forming triangular and diamond divets into the back of the glass, not from cubes of protruding glass like Fostoria. Also Anchor Hocking glass is of poorer quality than Fostoria, which is considered Elegant glassware.

THE EGG PLATE BELOW STILL HAS THE $2.99 STICKER ON IT. WE BOUGHT A STACK OF THEM FROM A GLASS BARN IN KY.
THE FAIRFIELD EGG PLATE HAS BEEN RECENTLY REISSUED BY ANCHOR HOCKING AND CALLED "ENTERTAINERS." WE BOUGHT THIS ONE ON EBAY A FEW MONTHS AGO.
WE ARE THE ANCHOR HOCKING GLASS MUSEUM AND WE ARE DEDICATED TO FIGHTING GLASSWARE FRAUD ON EBAY.
WE HAVE WRITTEN A 44 PAGE CD BOOK SHOWING MANY OF THE JADITE JADEITE ITEMS BEING FRAUDULENTLY BEING SOLD ON EBAY AS FIRE KING, JEANETTE AND McKEE, ESPECIALLY PITCHERS. CLICK ON: FAKE FIRE KING PITCHERS
