WARNING: There are bad people out there in Cyberland trying to get your passwords and other personal information! They work full time at this! It is their job! We the good people work all day trying to make a dollar and these scammers are right there trying to rip it out of our hands! They have no shame at all!
Fake Emails are sent with the sole purpose of convincing you to give out your personal account information! They will try to get you to divulge personal information such as your passwords, bank account information and credit card numbers by clicking on a link in the email. After clicking you taken to a fake website and asked to "verify" your personal information. A website set up only for the purpose of extracting your personal information!
FAKE emails will look exactly like they were sent from Ebay or Paypal. They have the logos and everything! But they are NOT! They are fooling you! The emails may try to scare you by stating you will be reported to for infractions to Ebay or Paypal. You get scared so you want to click on the link in the email! DON"T click on anything! Check your actual web based Ebay email or Paypal account to verify if this email is legitimate.
1. SPOOF\FAKE EMAILS: NEVER will have your real name! The email will have either "eBay member" or "eBay community member" or your email address as THE HEADER!
2. GENUINE eBay & Paypal Emails: ALWAYS have your FULL REAL name!
3. Email that you receive from eBay will be in your inbox in "My eBay" under messages!
4. Email from Paypal will always be sent to your email address associated with your Paypal account! AND Email FROM PAYPAL WILL ALWAYS HAVE YOUR FULL ACCOUNT NAME in the Email!
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Sellers: You can receive fake payment and shipping emails! Always check your account that your item has been actually paid for! Make sure the URL says paypal or ebay!
Buyers: You can be sent emails requesting your shipping information, payment info and such and then asking for your bank account or credit card number!
Newbies: You will receive Spoofs and Phishes as soon as you register on Ebay and\or open a Paypal account! Remember after receiving these emails go to your account on your own. DON'T click on links! Type in your own URL or bookmark that you made. If you ever make a mistake and enter your password after clicking on a link that you shouldn't have, immediately when you realize you have done wrong, go to your accounts and change your password!
Seasoned Buyers and Sellers: You are not exempt! You may receive emails about requests for your account information under the guise of innocent questions. Even if you are a seasoned Ebayer....watch out and remember the bad guys ARE trying to get you!
