I placed a bid on a vehicle, which I did not win. A day later, I received a very authentic ebay email which told me that the purchaser did not complete the sale and I was now being offered the vehicle at the price of my original bid, which was below the reserve. Of course, the email indicated that it was being offered through Ebay Warehouse services, a third-party seller for unsold ebay items. The official-looking ebay email indicated that I had a certain time to respond, before it would be offered to the next non-widding bidder. Being a computer-savvy person, I checked the links from the email and they all pointed to URL's of the type www(dot)ebay(dot)com(dot)ro
The .ro in the email and URL address ending tipped me off that the site was in the country of Romania, so I became immediately suspicious. In my years as a computer network administrator, I had knowledge that scammers use countries such as Eastern Europe, African, and Asian to conduct these types of frauds. I reported my suspicions to Ebay Security, and they confirmed that this was indeed a scam email to obtain money, or, at the very least, access to your ebay and/or paypal account information.
BEWARE and double-check with ebay if you have any doubt about any ebay transaction. They (ebay security) responded to me within 20 minutes which I found quite impressive. The bottom line is don't think you'll lose a good deal if you don't jump on it. It's best to exercise patience for a short while rather than losing potentially thousands of dollars!!!
