Be sure to check your shipping charges before you commit to purchase an item. I am seeing very excessive shipping and handling charges on Ebay. The company squareandcircle has made it a practice to sell items for 99cents to $10 and then charge $40 to $60 shipping and handling. Another company I picked up on today in the Hull pottery section when they sold a piece for around $20 and then charged more than that for shipping and handling. Looking over their feedback I see that they will sell an item for $6 to $10 and then charge $15 to $20 shipping and handling. I'm not saying that all of the companies who specialize in selling on Ebay are overcharging for shipping and handling, but the ones I am looking at seem to be awfully high. :o) If a seller wants you to email for a shipping rate before bidding, you would be well advised to do so or you may get a very unpleasant surprise. Also, just because there is a shipping calculator beside the item doesn't mean a thing. They may not be using standard rates and supply their own shipping rates. Be sure to read the fine print for hidden handling charges. Just remember to protect yourself, because there are those whose only purpose is to cheat as much money out of you as possible and NO ONE will protect you from those people.
