This is a fantastic unit, well-engineeered with an excellent remote, and the manual is complete (as opposed to others that are frustrating and incomplete, which is a key reason I bought this unit). Manual could be slightly better organized to avoid flipping through sections, and somewhat more explicit on why hooking up certain cables provides "better " or "worse" connections - I still don't know if I have connected my unit the optimum way for getting the best picture in my setup, but at least Pnasonic gives you the choices (as opposed to other manufacturers). If there would be one thing that Panasonic could do to improve this unit, it is this: Make the remote a "learning" remote for your TV; in other words, be able to aim your TV's remote at the Panasonic remote and it will learn the TV code. Unfortunately the Panasonic remote works with only Panasonic TV's so you need a second remote for your TV if you don't own a Panasonic TV. And yes, I do have a popular model universal learning remote that eliminates clutter on my coffee table, but the Panasonic remote has more buttons than the universal remote can decode. I own other vcr/dvd combo units that lack the quality of this unit; this Panasonic unit sells for a little more than other competitive units, but it is a quality piece of gear with a customer help line that is worth the extra few bucks when you get stuck. What I appreciated in reading other reviews is that this model is the next generation of product (now with the ATSC tuner, and black in color); there are a number of predecessors by Panasonic of similar design, so obviously Panasonic has a proven design over time that has endured years of manufacturing with minimal changes. In our "throwaway" world - with famous "old" electronic names now slapped onto unsupported, low quality products from unknown manufacturing sources - this is a refreshing difference.
