So you want to sell your grandpas do-dad on Ebay, that he said was worth a fortune. Where do you start?. First, you need to evaluate what the item is. This is usually the hardest part of selling on ebay, however the chances are high that someone recently sold the same thing.
My recomendation of finding value of items, is to comb through completed listings of EBAY. You can do this by entering a brief item description through the navigation bar, and then going to the left menu and marking the completed listing icons. Once you do that, I also recommend checking the highest first marker on the upper lright of the listing page. This eliminates having to go through a bunch of "junk" auctions and going straight to what the market value of items are. This will help you determine value, age, and even help you write the item descriptions if you need help. Also keep in mind that you can e-mail members about their knowledge of items, and most ebay members are very helpful and pleasant to deal with.
Though this method is the most effective I have found, another way to find the value of items is to use a search engine like google or acoona, and you can find chat topics of value and sometimes you can find private party dealers i.e. antique shops or specialty shops that can help you find values of certain object.
Most importantly, you must remember that not everything is worth money, and it can be frustrating trying to find a reasonable expectation of an asking price for many items. Sentimental value and interesting stories dont make an object desireable to collectors, but can be great fillers for your items description. Just have fun, and maybe you will gain knowledge of what items are worth, and you can pursue collecting and dealing of things you find interesting..
