Awesome spa, everything was as manufacturer stated, and delivered ahead of schedule by very helpful drivers. I cannot rate this spa or manufacturer highly enough . I AM including a few not so perfect points here because I believe everyone has the ability to improve. If I don't mention it here then it is probably EXCELLENT:
Balboa controller states to wire in minimum #6 wire. This is per NEC, but in fact NOTHING larger than #6 will fit under terminals and even then the Bend Radius for this wire to fit terminals is almost impossible.Balboa needs to redesign the wire entry point.
The Cover lift system makes removing the cover amazingly simple, but the assembly directions leave A LOT to be desired. Make sure you mount the supports 3 inches from the ground, not 1/2 inch as stated, and use 1 long 90 degree bent pipe and one short for the top support, and then same again for the bottom support.
Steps: Be ready to use some 2x4 wood and a large hammer to assemble steps, maybe dish soap would have helped.
Nine colored light upgrade: This is ALL NINE colors at the same time, that was not clear to me.
Easy access electrical panel! : Hmmm! about 15 screws and a whole 8ft by 2 foot panel to remove!!!
Some jets and controls getting a little hard to turn: Probably need a coating of teflon, I'll try this soon.
THAT'S IT. Apart from these small points the spa is Awsome!!!.,
PS. Stainless jets are well worth the upgrade money, and insulation factor is amazing.
UPDATE: The multi-colour light is fine; just needs fast successive pushes on button to change colours and it came with ZERO instructions.
A note on the two "5HP" pumps. Like most manufacturers this rating is misleading at the least. A total of 10 HP at 230Volt will need about 50 amps to run, add to this to the 5.5Kw heater which needs about 25 amps for a total requirement of about 75 amps. YET the circuit breaker is rated at 60 amps (@ 80% duty cycle) which means it can only draw 80% (or 48 amps) continuously without tripping, then you see something is fishy!. There is an exellent site to explain this in laymans terms but I can't direct you to sites outside of Ebay (by policy). You might however find relevent info yourself if you do a search for:
The numbers game kbrady/motors
These new high power motors easily create a lot of foam which can be annoying, you can buy expensive ( sometimes $15.00 or more) foam reducing agents in pool stores or you can do the same thing almost instantly by adding a very small squirt of Johnsons Baby oil for just a few cents.
UPDATE: 11-26-06.
I have had spa more than 2 months or more now with absolutely no problems except as stated earlier: some jet controls (foot/recliner seat) difficult to turn. This is probably my last update unless something major goes wrong.
Good luck all you bubble seekers, I use mine almost EVERY night.
