Epson printers have a non-removeable print head that is located inside the printer. If you allow an Epson printer to sit for several months without it being used, the internal print head may clog. A clogged print head can ussually be cleaned using the regular cleaning process provided by the printer's software. Unfortunately if you let your Epson printer sit without being used for more than a few months, the print head may become severely clogged. At this time, no amount of cleaning will clean the print head. The only way to fix the printer is to send it back to the factory. They do not sell replacement print heads, nor can the print head be cleaned with any type of cleaning solution. I work for a company that fixes printers and recycles printer cartridges. We have recieved many Epson printers that cannot be cleaned. These printers are not covered by an Epson warranty. If you do not print daily or weekly, do not plan on getting reliability from an Epson printer.
All HP inkjet printers utilize a removeable print head. Each time you remove the ink cartridge and replace it, you are also replacing the print head. Some commercial printers offer a seperate print print head and ink cartridge, though both are replaceable.
Compared to the Epson printer, An HP cannot be rendered useless due to dry ink in the print heads. Instead, if an HP printer does get clogged, you can remove the cartridge and clean the print head. If necessary you can simply purchase a new cartridge. For the average user, and HP technology provides the very best reliability.
