Elie Tahari- A Guide to Elie Tahari & Fashion
Raised in an Israeli orphanage, Elie Tahari immigrated to the United States in the 1970s with no money and big dreams of starting his own fashion line. 30 years later, Elie Tahari's clothes are now sold in over 600 stores and in five exclusive Tahari boutiques. For three decades, Elie Tahari has set trends, not followed them--virtually inventing the idea of club-scene fashion.
Moving into the 1980s, Tahari turned away from the decadence of the disco clubs and began working on a line of tailored suits for women. This ushered in an era of women's fashion that would live well into the next decade. With the turn of the millennium, Elie Tahari continued to grow in the direction of extremely elegant casual wear, made with silks, charmuse, chiffons, and other fine fabrics that keep the focus on fit and details, not bright colors and ostentatious displays.
In 2006, Tahari redefined the sweater with his Lourdes sweater. A cotton pointelle with a ruffled front, the low cut, V-necked sweater is as elegant as much of his eveningwear. Like his hand stitched Monaco jacket, it is a striking natural black. Both pieces are deceptively simple and understated, but extremely form fitting with long, flowing lines.
Since he has always drawn inspiration from love, Tahari has recently begun producing a small line of lingerie products. His Delia bustier in shirred chiffon features intricate lace detailing. Its matching sheer blouse made of crinkled chiffon features a light "Oregon Trail" print. The sexy combination is completed with a linen wrap sweater with pointelle detail.
