The wife just purchased this from the "big box mart" store for under $6.00 about a month ago. She also purchased a couple of the highly scented glass jar candles. I do not know the manufacturer of the candle, but it is in a jar similar to the Yankee Candles with the press top glass lid, the lid does have "DD" on the top if that might help? The first couple of days I was very impressed by this little candle warmer, the house had a nice scent of Apple Cinnamon (the scent she loves besides lilac) from the candle, she would only use it for maybe 3 to 4 hours each night. Two days ago when she got home she turned the candle warmer on and went about her normal routine, we were in our back office and we heard a loud "SNAP"... We both figured one of the cats got into something so we walked out to find one sleeping in her favorite window and the other sound asleep on the bed. We both wrote it off and returned to doing what we were doing. About 20 minutes later the little calico cat walked into the office and my wife noticed she had red wax all over her face! Now the candle warmer was on top of an antique currio cabinet we have and there is NO way for the cats to get on top of it, She went out and there was candle wax down the side of the cabinet, all over the top of the cabinet and all over the glass and a nice puddle on the carpet! That "SNAP" we had heard earlyer was evidently the glass jar breaking.
I took a couple of ice cubes and rubbed it on the wax on the carpet (we have a greyish tan berber) then we used a spoon to scrape as much up as we could. I then took a brown paper bag and placed it over the wax spot and used an iron on medium heat, moving the bag around several times when it started wicking the wax out of the carpet. I then used rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball to get the dye out of the carpet. We peeled as much of the wax off of the wood as we could and then I used a hair dryer to melt the wax and gently wiped it off with a paper towel, after that I put lemon oil on a rag and wiped everything down. Same with the glass, I used the hair dryer to melt the wax residue and wiped it off and then used Windex to clean up the rest of the residue. It took us a couple of hours but you can not tell this ever happened.
I do not know what caused the glass jar to break, it was not a little thin jar either, it was fairly thick. The other candle from the same manufacturer we placed inside of a heavy pie tin and lit it, It burned completely after 4 days and the glass never broke. Since I can not say for sure if it possibly was a bad glass jar from the beginning or maybe the candle warmer poofed out and got too hot, I will warn you to use great CAUTION when using an electric candle warmer. Possibly place your warmer inside of something that will catch the wax if your glass candle jar breaks and you will not have the mess we did.
