I recently replaced the neck on a Squier Telecaster with the Eden T model maple neck with the vintage finish. Upon recieving the neck I was quite impressed with the finish. The coloration matches well with the Squier's Butterscotch finish. It is a polyurethane finish which I feel will wear much better than a lacquer finish. I don't subscribe to the commonly held view that a lacquer finish will produce a better tone. This is probably true on acoustic instruments but I doubt it will have a noticeable effect on solid body guitars. The neck appears straight and it's truss rod seems to work correctly. The nut slot is radiused so the nut has to be shaped to match. I had to do some light sanding on the sides to make it seat in the pocket and also had to round off the corners of the heel. Closer inspection revealed that the frets were not seated completely in the center of the fingerboard. I could easily slip an .003 feeler gauge under it. This indicated that the frets were slightly over radiused. Using a non marring hammer I tapped the centers of the frets down only to find that the fret ends then lifted up. Fret #18 and 19 refused to lay down. I then found that the tangs are cut short by 3/32 on the ends so there is no tang to grip the fret slot. The slot ends are filled before it is finished and it does look nice but the short tangs are a problem. I could level the frets as they are but they will likely cause problems on down the road so I won't waste the time. I could have returned the neck but I would have had to pay return postage to Canada and chances are that a replacement would have had the same problems. Besides that I had already altered the heel. I paid less than $50 for the neck including shipping so I'll set it aside and one day refret it.

I reported this problem to the seller and if the mfg. corrects the problem this will be a great bargain. As it is the money that you save on the neck will be spent on your time working on it so you're better off spending the extra money on an Allparts, Warmoth or WD neck.
