Ebooks are selling like crazy on and off of ebay.  If you have ever wanted to get into the business, here's your chance.  You may have seen the words public domain at the bottom or top of some ebook descriptions.  I am going to help you get your hands on this material for free.

But how do you know what is in the Public Domain.  It simply stated means the copyright for that work has expired.  Under U.S. copyright laws anything that was published before 1923 is public domain.  There are certain cases where books published until 1978 have also fallen into public domain.  Items you might find under public domain are:  plays, books, posters, movies, music, photographs, and others.  Note: If you live in another country you need to check the copyright laws for your country.

Examples of how public domain material can make you money.  Have you ever heard of Walt Disney?  A very smart and wealthy man.  He used public domain fairy tales and children's stories.  Changed them, updated them, made some "Grimm's" not so dark.  Ted Turner and the American Movie Classic channel.  He didn't even have to change anything about the movies.   He has instant classics that people want to watch and he doesn't have to pay royalties or copyright fees on the ones that have fallen into public domain.  Now I bet you would like to know how to get in on some of this action!

What personally I have done is gotten classic books in public domain and sold them as ebooks on ebay unchanged.  I have a few for sale in my store ('Think and Grow Rich", etc).  You could get a book and repackage it and update it to make it relevant to people today.  Or if you wanted you could sell these books on CD's.  With today's technology you can even have the book read to you by your computer (a nice feature for some older childrens books such as 'Alice in Wonderland').  There is software so you can put the public domain books onto palm devices or ebook readers.  Are you getting excited?  Or at least getting an idea of how you could sell information from the public domain on ebay or your own website?

Ok so you get the picture and now you want to know where to go to get all this public domain material for free.  You could do a search for free public domain books, or whatever work your interested in.  My secret source and favorite place for public domain books is Project Gutenberg!  Oh well I guess it's not a secret any more:o)  So if you would like to start selling public domain material you need to check out their website.  You can do many of the things mentioned in the above paragraph by utilizing their site.  They have practically done the work for you, well at least part of the work.
