Beware of purchasing items off of eBay and being told by the person selling the item it has either a manufacturers warranty or better yet, that the person selling the item will warranty the item being sold for so many days or months. If the warranty they give is shorter than the time you can make a dispute with Paypal you might be OK.
Manufacturers warranty:
Be very careful about buying things that the seller claims are under a manufactures warranty. Often times the item is still in the original factory wrapping. The item most likely will not carry any manufacturers warranty because a lot of them only warrant the item if it is sold through an authorized seller. A reseller on eBay rarely qualifies as an authorized seller. They do exist, but ask questions and check it out if it is an expensive purchase. You might find out that an eBay receipt will not satisfy the manufacturers warranty requirements.
Now, for the second type of warranty. Ones where the sellers sell many of the same items. They state on their listing things like 90 day warranty. The seller is selling fake electronic items by the thousands. For instance, I purchased a generic made in China battery for my laptop, knowing that it was generic. The seller warranty was for 9 months. After 6 months the battery dies. I contact the seller, ask for a replacement. He tells me that he will replace it after he tests it and if it fails he will send me a new one. I get the battery back, returned by him telling me that: There is nothing wrong with the battery. If there is a problem it is my fault for leaving the laptop plugged in all the time. No the battery won't even start my laptop. It is completely shorted out. I did not leave it plugged in because it goes to and from work and I travel with it.
Now I am mad. I paid for the item with Paypal. I am past their 45 day window to file a complaint. I contact eBay to tell them about it, not expecting any help, the sent me to their complaint department which is a menu driven nightmare. Their menu system asked for the item number, which I inputed into the item number box. When I send the complaint they tell me the item number is no longer in their system.
So, to sum it up, sellers warranties are useless, and eBay is not going to help, and Paypal washes their hands of any problems after 45 days. Of course I left positive feedback for the buyer because the battery did work, and was delivered to me fast. The only thing I could do was to leave updated feedback which was months old, which nobody will see.
I hope you see how useless these warranties are. As eBay fees go up and they push sellers to get stores. Be very careful of sellers items that look genuine, and are too cheap to be real, because they are not real! They are most likely cheap Chinese made knock offs! A lot of sellers stores are loaded with this junk. Another tip off is that a lot of time the item comes from Hong Kong.
