BUYER BEWARE!! If you bid on or purchase a Vehicle or large purchase such as a 4-Wheeler, Motorcycle, Tractor, Lawn Mower or anything else that runs in the thousands of dollars, you need to read this!
There are GREAT Bargains on Ebay, but there are also SMART CONS waiting to take your money, so get Educated.
You can't afford to attend the School of Hard Knocks in this game! Learn from my experiences NOW!
How do you protect yourself from the non-existent car purchase, or the motorcycle that nobody can find once it has been paid for? What about Lemons, Flood Cars, Accident Victims? Always remember, YOU, the buyer needs to be in control at all times! You have what the seller wants....MONEY! You have the power to set the parameters of the closing of the sale, regardless of what the seller demands. If they want YOUR money, they need to do things YOUR way. Your way may take a little longer and the seller may get impatient, but you'll limit your potential for lost money if you take your time and educate yourself. I will say this, if you finance through Ebay, the steps you take will ensure you won't get taken advantage of easily.
Always have a copy of the TITLE faxed or mailed to you prior to sending your Deposit. Make sure they actually have the item. Verify the VIN# or Serial # with the Ebay listing. Make sure you receive a Purchase Agreement with all the details specified such as Serial #, Purchase Price, Terms, hidden costs, time restrictions. Anything you can include that protects you, needs to be in that agreement. Be VERY CAREFUL of sellers with Low Feedback or ZERO FEEDBACK. That is a RED FLAG. Numerous NEGATIVE FEEDBACK is a reason to beware.
ALWAYS run an AUTO CHECK or CARFAX Report prior to bidding or purchasing a titled vehicle. Know as much as possible about what you're potentially purchasing. Ask the seller lots of questions or request additional photos. This verifies that you have a legitimate seller and verifies they actually have possession of the item. We're talking PEACE OF MIND!
One thing I've been doing lately is running the VIN Number through my local new car dealer to get a printout of all the vehicle's service history records. This helps you spot a potential LEMON. If the car has not had many warranty repairs, it probably is a decent vehicle, provided it has not been wrecked, flooded, stolen, etc. Checking the service history of any vehicle you are considering is VERY important.
When SENDING MONEY, NEVER send the entire amount! Always send your deposit AFTER you've done your homework and had everything faxed and signed by both parties. If you're buying a vehicle, bring a certified Bank Check to complete the purchase. That way, if the vehicle has been misrepresented, you don't lose any more than your deposit and travel expenses. NEVER PAY IN CASH! Always keep a detailed paper trail in case you are defrauded and need to go to court. NEVER wire money to an unknown seller! I don't believe in WIRING money EVER! You may never see your money again or the vehicle...
If you get a Second Chance Offer that comes on your personal email, but doesn't show up in your EBAY MESSAGES section, delete it, it is NOT LEGIT! It is a scam attempt.
Do your homework, ask lots of questions, get photos and you may end up with a good vehicle for a LOT less than a dealer vehicle. HAPPY BUYING!
