These are four easy embroidery stitches you can use to embroider on flour sack towels with Aunt Martha's hot iron embroidery transfer patterns.
Outline Stitch
Starting from the left to right, taking regular small stitches along the line of the design. The thread always emerges on the left side of the previous stitch. This stitch is used for flower stems, outlines, etc. It can also be worked as a filling stitch if worked closely together within a shape unitl it is completely filled.
Satin Stitch
Work straight stitches closely together across the shape, as shown. Take care to keep the edge even, and if you are following an outline marked on the fabric, take your stitches to the outside of the line so that the marked line does not show.
Running Stitch
Pass the needle in an out of the fabric, making the surface stitches of equal length. The stitches on the underside should also be of equal length, but half the size or less than the upper stitches.
Long Stitch
This stitch is used in Aunt Martha's transfers where long stitch is indicated, like Bruno the Bear, and 8 kitten motifs. You begin by pushing the needle through the back of the fabric then bringing it up through one end of your stamped line Completely cover the line with the thread and push the needle through the fabric at the other end of your line. Then come back up on the opposited end of the next line.
