Easter Eggs: Not Just For Kids

Ever wondered what people were talking about when they refer to Easter Eggs, and they were not referring to Chocolate?  Well Easter Eggs are the hidden messages or features found in movies, software, video games, books and music.  These Easter Eggs are there for all to enjoy, as long as you know where to look.

The reason  or type of  Easter Egg may differ from one medium to the other.  In Software, the programmer may add the Easter Egg as a signature, to gain recognition,  and as a joke.  Video Games hold hidden levels or messages.  Cheat codes are usually not considered Easter Eggs.  CD and DVD hold hidden features including screen savers, tracks, blooper reels and more. Whatever the reason for the Easter Egg, they are not intended to be harmful.  They are placed there for fun and entertainment.

Here are some examples of Easter Eggs in Each Medium:

Software:  Adobe Photoshop 4, There is a hidden  Big Electric Cat that can be found either at start up or before selecting help about,  Hold down the ALT key.  In later versions you may have to hold the SHIFT,CONTOL and ALT keys.

Video Games: Grand Theft Auto San Andreas: Go to the gym in Las Venturas, and through the bomb garage next to it. Stand in that alley and look at the building across the street to your right -- and you'll see people jumping and walking off the roof. It will only happen if you stand in that alley and watch it from there.

CD Black Eyed Peas CD Elephunk The last track Where is the Love, is followed by 15 sec of silence then a full song.

DVD The Benchwarmers, Go to Special Features
- Select Deleted Scenes
- Highlight Main Menu and press up 3 times for a infielder icon to show up between 2B and SS
- Press enter and watch Jon Lovitz's character sing the National Anthem

TV  House- Apt number is  221B. This references the great detective  Mr Sherlock Holmes of 221B baker street

Even Books Harry Potter,The Order of the Phoenix:  on page 125 at the bottom. The quote is:
"No, no, I'm sure it's fine," said Mr. Weasley, holding the receiver above his head and peering at the dial. "let's see...six..." he dialed the number, "two...four...and another four...and another two..." The number they dial is 62442.  On a standard telephone, there are letters underneath the numbers. The letters spell out MAGIC

Now that you have been given a taste of the the Easter Egg, go and search for the hidden items in all of the Mediums that you have.  Rest assured that there are many, many sources for locating these eggs, you just have to know where to SEARCH
