Easter Eggs: Not Just For Kids
Ever wondered what people were talking about when they refer to Easter Eggs, and they were not referring to Chocolate? Well Easter Eggs are the hidden messages or features found in movies, software, video games, books and music. These Easter Eggs are there for all to enjoy, as long as you know where to look.The reason or type of Easter Egg may differ from one medium to the other. In Software, the programmer may add the Easter Egg as a signature, to gain recognition, and as a joke. Video Games hold hidden levels or messages. Cheat codes are usually not considered Easter Eggs. CD and DVD hold hidden features including screen savers, tracks, blooper reels and more. Whatever the reason for the Easter Egg, they are not intended to be harmful. They are placed there for fun and entertainment.
Here are some examples of Easter Eggs in Each Medium:
Software: Adobe Photoshop 4, There is a hidden Big Electric Cat that can be found either at start up or before selecting help about, Hold down the ALT key. In later versions you may have to hold the SHIFT,CONTOL and ALT keys.
Video Games: Grand Theft Auto San Andreas: Go to the gym in Las Venturas, and through the bomb garage next to it. Stand in that alley and look at the building across the street to your right -- and you'll see people jumping and walking off the roof. It will only happen if you stand in that alley and watch it from there.
CD Black Eyed Peas CD Elephunk The last track Where is the Love, is followed by 15 sec of silence then a full song.
DVD The Benchwarmers, Go to Special Features
- Select Deleted Scenes
- Highlight Main Menu and press up 3 times for a infielder icon to show up between 2B and SS
- Press enter and watch Jon Lovitz's character sing the National Anthem
TV House- Apt number is 221B. This references the great detective Mr Sherlock Holmes of 221B baker street
Even Books Harry Potter,The Order of the Phoenix: on page 125 at the bottom. The quote is:
"No, no, I'm sure it's fine," said Mr. Weasley, holding the receiver above his head and peering at the dial. "let's see...six..." he dialed the number, "two...four...and another four...and another two..." The number they dial is 62442. On a standard telephone, there are letters underneath the numbers. The letters spell out MAGIC
