Mountain Magik Beeswax Ear Cones

My mission is to provide outstanding quality and service.  Each of my cones is handmade with a great deal of care and the finest materials available.

History of Ear Coning

Ear coning (sometimes referred to as Ear Candling) is an age-old technique practiced by the Eqyptians, Greeks and Chinese and Native Americans.  European cave patinting depicted the ear coning process.  Native Americans still use them to "clear" their heads.

In centuries past, however, the practice most often was reserved for royalty and renowned warriors.

Today, ear candling is practiced by such groups as Native Americans, the Amish and other believers in home remedies and natural healing methods.

What are they?

Unlike the common everyday-style candle, ear candles are made from a cotton cloth (usually muslin)  that has been soaked in pure beeswax and rolled to form a hollow tube. The tube is narrowed at one end to fit in the ear canal.

How to use Ear Cones !

What you will need along with the cones:

scissors                    cup of water                  paper plate                lighter or matches             cotton swabs

cotton balls              hydrogen peroxide         Oil (olive or similar)   skewer (included in my sets)

Precaution:

CAUTION should be taken around the open flame. Nobody should ever cone themselves. Usage and quantity really depend on the individual needs of each person.

Here we GO !

Have the one to be coned lie on his/her side. Pillows may be desired to get comfortable.  While he/she is getting comfortable, put the cone throught a cut X in the paper plate.  Place the tapered end of the cone into the ear.  Light the other end.  The cone must fit snugly to form the seal that creates the vacuum.  If there is smoke coming from between the ear and cone at any time, You Do Not Have A Seal !

Simply adjust the angle and possibly the pressure. Blow or wave the smoke away.  When a seal has been achieved, no more smoke will be seeping out between the ear and the cone.

The person being coned should hear a seashell or crackling sound while the cone is burning. If the sound(s) are not heard, adjust the candle - don't forget the seal.  Those hard of hearing may not hear anything.

Another cause for not hearing any sound could be a blockage in the tip of the cone or too much pressure on the cone.  Remove the cone.  Use the skewer to clear the tip of any blockage in the cone and continue: don't forget the seal. If there is no blockage, ease up on the pressure. You can also crush the tip with too much pressure. Just reopen with the skewer. Too much pressure can also cause pain !

IF THE TIP OF THE CONE GETS HOT. IMMEDIATELY REMOVE THE CONE.

Clear the tip of the cone and continue: don't forget the seal. When the ash on the cone is about 3" long, you will need to trim the ash from the cone. Cut the ash just above the flame. It will probably fall t the paper plate. Using the scissors remove the ash to the cup of water.

When the cone is about 3 - 4" form the ear, remove the cone and extinguish the flame. Using a swab with hydrogen peroxide on it, lean up any powder.  Use another swab with oil to swab the outer ear canal.  Do not put anything into the ear -- you can damage your ear. Cut open your cone and see what's there !! YOU WILL BE AMAZED !!! The powder is from the cloth being burned.

How often do you cone?

As for how many cones to use or how often to use them, these must be personal decisions. You should be able to tell if and when you need to do more.
